How to care for your Jewellery

ESSEN jewellery is handcrafted by expert craftsmen using locally sourced recycled precious metals. It is delicate by nature and we encourage customers to take extra care when wearing it daily. Below, learn more about how to care for your pieces and maximise their wear for years to come.

TIP #1

To keep your jewellery as bright as possible, we strongly advise that you avoid contact with salt water, perfumes, lotions and cosmetics.

TIP #2

We recommend taking your jewellery off when sleeping, swimming, showering or exercising, as this will tarnish the metal’s appearance over time.

TIP #3

Ensure to store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and avoid storing your pieces in a closed humid environment.

TIP #4

All metals will naturally soften, fade and oxidise with time and will require cleaning and maintenance. Note - All ESSEN jewellery includes a box and polishing cloth for safe storage and polishing.

GOLD

Our earrings use a unique combination of a brass base and are finished with a range of PVD techniques and 2.5-micron gold plating. While more accessible in price, PVD plating is highly precise in its gold hues and is only suited to certain designs. Gold-plated finishes using 2.5-microns are 2.5x as thick as a standard gold plating meaning the likelihood of needing to re-plate your pieces is low. It also offers the timeless gold look at a more affordable price.

SILVER

Building on the made-to-last brass base, each design will also be available with recycled 925 sterling silver plating. A timeless cool-tone metal, 925 sterling silver’s enduring appeal lies in its beauty and versatility. Hypoallergenic and endlessly durable, it’s a timeless investment, anchoring any outfit and lending itself brilliantly to any mixed metal look.

FRESHWATER PEARLS

We choose freshwater cultured pearls for their quiet beauty, natural variation, and understated elegance. Each one forms slowly, shaped by time and nature—no two are ever exactly alike.

Subtle differences in tone, shape, or surface are part of their organic character and a reflection of their provenance. These details are not imperfections, but reminders of their natural origins—and the considered pace at which they’re made.

As with all delicate materials, pearls require mindful care. Avoid contact with moisture, perfumes, or abrasive surfaces, and store them separately to protect their lustre.

To preserve your jewellery’s brightness, we advise you to regularly clean your jewellery. This prevents the build-up of oils, dirt and residue which can potentially affect plating. For cleaning, a soft cloth is all you need. Please avoid metal polish or cleaners.
